Perfectly Frank

This piece is dedicated to our Len’s father-in-law Frank Wilks who became 1st trombonist with Great Horwood Band until poor health forced him to stop, well past the age of 80. Until then, he also played in orchestras around the area and taught beginners on brass in his dining room!
A true musician, his interests also included Big Bands, and at the other end of the ‘scale’ Spanish guitar, to the extent that he made one out of a large walnut table leg, slicing the wood thin by handsaw and demonstrating his skill with wood and other media!
When he died, Len composed this piece as part of a suite dedicated to Frank. It has a jolly style and is within the capability of most bands. It is reminiscent of a simpler, happier time in a part of England that coincidentally happens to be where the Pitkin part of my family lived for 200 years. Enjoy. Graham Cooper
